TLC Decorate a BIG Christmas Tree Competition is back for 2026

Team Limerick Clean-Up’s ‘Decorate a BIG Christmas Tree‘ competition is back and better than ever and it’s one of the most creative rewarding class projects you’ll run all year! With brilliant prizes up for grabs, the competition is open to all primary schools in Limerick. Register below!

Thanks to our wonderful competition partner, all entries from primary schools across Limerick City and County will be on public display at the Crescent Shopping Centre for the entire month of December, giving your pupils’ hard work the spotlight it deserves.

All you need to do is get your class decorating a large Christmas tree using recycled and recyclable materials — paper, cardboard, plastic, anything that would normally go in the green bin. It’s a simple, low-cost, mess-friendly activity that ticks a lot of boxes: creativity, teamwork, and environmental awareness, all wrapped up in one festive class project that pupils genuinely love. All participating classes will receive a large blank Christmas tree as well as a briefing document with instructions.

We know it’s early to be thinking about Christmas, but we want to make sure the trees are ready for the festive period. Once your tree is decorated, we’ll take care of the rest. We’ll collect it from you and put it on display at the Crescent Shopping Centre in time to be admired by thousands of shoppers, parents, and pupils throughout December.

Junior Competition (Junior and Senior infants)

Additional Education Needs Competition (all age groups)

Prizes

Each category has vouchers for school equipment up for grabs!

€750 for 1st prize
€550 for 2nd prize
€350 for 3rd prize

A special awards ceremony will also be held for the winning classes, with an opportunity to meet some well-known faces!

Important Dates

Early September – Registration opens for schools
5^th October – Registration closes for schools
W/C 12^th October – Tree delivery to schools begins
W/C 9^th November – Tree collection from schools begins
End of November – Winners announced and awards ceremony takes place for winning classes
December – All entries displayed in the Crescent Shopping Centre

No, the whole point is to reuse materials you likely already have around the classroom or school, keeping it low-cost and eco-friendly.

Of course! Select the appropriate age group, depending on the ages of the pupils. Please ensure to label ALL trees with afterschool/homework group name, age group involved and teacher/supervisor name.

Only recycled and recyclable materials — think paper, cardboard, plastic, or anything you’d normally pop into the green recycling bin. The idea is to turn everyday recyclables into a festive masterpiece. You will also receive a briefing document with your tree.

Trees need to be collected in time for the Crescent Shopping Centre’s Christmas launch so tree collection begins on the 9^th of November.

No, the TLC team will collect all trees.
